boogie boarding!

Hey!
Yesterday me and morgan went boogie boarding with some of the kids from the tour.
It was so fun! Here´s how it works
so you take your board out where there are big waves, and then you jump on just after the waves come! I was out there for hours, and when we got home, there was sand all over everything! I had a good time. today is our last day in costa rica whaaaaaaaaaaa.

see you all when I get back,
Mica

Our last day in Quepos...and in Costa Rica.

Hallo our Lovelies,

I finally found a computer which allowed me to connect my camera, but the programs just do not recognize said device. Oh, well. Hopefully you will tune in even after we´re back to share in what we saw. It has been amazing.
I write from a little library in our cabin complex, a library and shop called the Mono Azul which was started by a 9 year old girl named Janine who was horrified to see what was happening to the jungle here. All the proceeds of sales here go to funding programs which help sustain the flora and fauna. She´s now been at it for 11 years.
Yesterday our guide, Deinor (¿Qual typo de nobre espaƱol is esto, digas? His twin, Leonard, is named for an American actor and his Mama wanted a rhyming name for him), gave us a lovely and detailed tour of Manuel Antonio. Peeks at sloths (which they call "perasosa", or lazy bear), capuchin (which they call cara blanca - White Faced - here), stick bugs, beetles, iguanas, Jesus lizards and huge hermit crabs were enjoyed by all.
The best interaction, however, was being surrounded under the trees by the capuchin monkeys who were looking for treats in the bags of the beach-dwellers. At one point I told Mica that the monkeys were getting closer, she should come and see. She asked, "where?", turned around and came face to face with a capuchin who looked just as surprised to see her as she was to see him. I was both amused and horrified to see that, after we had made sure that the monkeys couldn´t get into our food bags, one bypassed us, found a deserted blanket with some snacks left behind, snatched their box of milk, climbed out of our reach, flipped up the plastic top with dexterity and downed the contents.
Later, Mica and her friend Morgan (we knew that our friend Peter and his daughter Morgan was going to be staying in Quepos as well, but we had no idea that our cabins would be across the street from each other!) enjoyed two beaches (with creative names such as "Playa Una" and "Playa Dos") where they body surfed and skim boarded. Great fun and sun burns were had by all.
Well, it is with both happiness and more than a hint of regret that we head for home.
See you all soon!
xo,
Jo

Hey!
I read all your comments. Thanks,I´m having a great time.
Today (like I posted earlier) we went for a walk in the rainforest, whith was really neat! we saw soooooo many different tipes of beatles, and quite a few caterpillars, moths, butterfliesand some birds.
What I really liked though was the Zip Lining. It was sooooooooooooo awesome!
What your doing is there are these big wires that the hook you onto, so your basically lying down on nothing exept your ropes that they have you tied on to. there were 13 lines in all, including the Tarzan jump. The Tarzan jump was so cool! It was kind of like bunjii jumping, except you didn´t bounce. It was so scary at the begining, because the ground like fell from under you! It was wicked!!!!!!!

Anyways, going for dinner tonight with the group.
talk to you later,
Bye!

Oh my Gooooooooood!

Hullo everyone,

Jo here...well, the early morning was lovely, walking in the rainforest of Monteverde, spotting various kinds of hummingbirds (they were very mellow and gathered around their sugar fountains like our chickadees might around a bird feeder), a coati, some buzzards, many beetles, moths, butterflies and caterpillars (we have photos) and a forest full of liana and interdependent trees, ferns and mosses. Our guide said that 35 years ago the very healthy new growth was non-existent due to farming. It gives me hope for our future.

AND THEN! Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!
To the Canopy Tour.
Holy moses, those canopy zip lines were giving everyone a scare, and you can imagine how I, someone with a true phobia of heights, was doing. Mica, of course, was perfectly fine, and zipped along happy as a clam.

You should have seen the young men employed to hook and unhook us at each station. Each was a t-shirted simian swinging here and there in the trees, as if this were the most natural was to travel ever invented.

There were, however a few lines (there were 12 altogether) which were killers. The last, for example, was a kilometre long. I had been just managing to wrap my head (and my harnessed self) around racing 150 metres above the ground when I heard about the last line and decided to get unhooked and walk the rest of the way.
Even Mica asked for her own guide (they called the young men to whom we could cling during the trip "taxistas") to hang onto in order to finish the last line. She also (she may have told you on this blog) tried the Tarzan Swing, which is exactly as it sounds. Strange to watch the tender love of your life plummet towards the ground and then, at the last second, fly into the trees, then do it all over again.
I am afraid that I may have created a monster (sorry, Brian) -- she loved every minute and was talking about trying bungy jumping next!
Well, off to enjoy a comida tipica. Our guide, Deinor, is taking us to a senora he knows who will cook us a "casadero", which, as those who have preceded us to CR will know, is (contents may vary) a platter of salad, beans, rice, tortillas, mashed potato and the meat or veggie of your choice. Yum!
Many hugs to all and Pura Vida!
Hi!
Yesterday we came to Monteverde by bus.
After we got here, we walked down to the town and looked at a women's art place where the women get together and make art.
we also wen't to a nice Italian resteraunt. It was really good, I had Fettuchini in white sauce and for desert this wonderful cake cream thing. It was delish!
Today we are going for a walk and then going Zip Lining!
More later

La Fortuna today and yesterday

Hi!
I have photos of our trip but they can´t get loaded on right now, so I will write about the other days when we can find a computer that will let us load the pictures.
Yesterday we went to the waterfall in la fortuna via horsback!!! It was so cool! I wish I could have gome for longer, but I had a lot of fun. when we got to the waterfall we went swimming in it! It was so cold! me and my friends went down to the actual waterfall and climbed around. As we were coming back, we saw a sloth on the side of the road just hanging on a fence there! He was so cute.
When we got back to the hotel we went swimming in the hot springs there. There are like 10 different hot springs and we started in the hottest one and kind of moved down. They were like brown from the minerals. That night, we went to see the Arenal Volcano. We hiked up part of the volcano and saw quite a few rainbow toucans (the guide said that they were the biggest and meanest of all of Costa Rica. They rob other birds nests) and parrots, who mate for life and never pick another if the mate dies. We saw these awesome fernlike things that, if you touch them, they fold up like cocoons if they feel in danger. Then we drove to the other side of the volcano and sat next to a river with fireflies and watched the volcano. It was soooo cool! We saw what looked like fire coming down from the mountain! The guide said that we were 4 out of 3,000 people who got to see lava in their lifetime. It was awesome!
Today in the morning, we got up and went to this nature reserve where this vet decided to buy a big property and start a reserve for injured and abandoned animals. His son runs the reserve. We saw little racoons (which climbed on my back), lots of spider monkeys (and I held the monkey Jessica´s hand), a wild pig named Perla (she was so sweet we got to pet her even though in the wild they can kill humans, jaguars and monkeys!). We also saw caiman, parakeets and parrots and Hedwig the spectacled owl. The birds were there because people had trimmed their wings so that they could keep them as pets and they couldn´t fly away and then abandoned them. Isn´t that sad? Last but not least, my favourite was the kinkajou named Benjamin. He was sooooo cute! I got to pet him and he held my hand and licked me!
Now me and Mom are in the town. We walked the town in about 10 minutes and then tried the food here. Mom wants to sit in the town centre next and then we will go for ice cream.
Later,
Mica

Tortuguero

Pura Vida!
Today we took a bus and a small open walled boat on a river system. We went to the town ofTortuguero where we got soaked by a torrential downpour as we walked to the ocean. It was like we just got out of the pool! Then we came to our lodge between the river and ocean, called Turtle Beach. We also went for a walk with rubber boots on because the forest floor was more like taking a brown bath {I think it was like quicksand, says Jo}. I love the turtle shaped pool. Mica has made two lovely friends, Sarah and Millie, from England and Texas.
Oh! We have to go for dinner! More tomorrow!
